Winery Overview & History
Vinkara Winery, founded in 2003, is a dynamic estate located near Ankara in the Kalecik region. Dedicated to reviving Turkey’s indigenous grape varieties, Vinkara has become a leading voice in the modern Anatolian wine movement. Its name derives from “Vin” (wine) and “Ankara,” symbolizing a harmony between tradition and progress.
Vinkara’s meticulous approach — from sustainable vineyard care to small-lot fermentation — has redefined the international image of Turkish fine wine.
Vineyard Location & Terroir
The vineyards are nestled at 700–800 meters above sea level in Kalecik, a highland valley surrounded by mountains. The region’s continental climate and mineral-rich soils of clay and limestone create ideal conditions for grapes to retain acidity and develop aromatic intensity.
This terroir gives Vinkara wines their hallmark freshness, balance, and distinctive character.
Grape Varieties & Wine Style
The winery’s signature grape is Kalecik Karası, a native red variety known for its soft tannins and floral, red-fruit aromas. Other key varieties include Narince and Boğazkere. The style is elegant and expressive, emphasizing finesse over power.
Signature Wines
- Reserve Kalecik Karası — Delicate and perfumed, with cherry, violet, and spice nuances.
- Narince Reserve — Textured and fresh, showing citrus and white flower aromas.
- Boğazkere Reserve — Deep, structured red with dark fruit and earthy complexity.
Winemaking & Cellar Practices
All grapes are hand-picked and sorted. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel and French oak barrels. Aging takes place in a cool, naturally humid cellar carved into rock. The wines are crafted with minimal intervention, reflecting both terroir and tradition.
