Paşaeli Wines

Winery Overview & History

Paşaeli Wines was founded in 2000 by Seyit Karagözoğlu, a passionate advocate for Turkey’s lesser-known indigenous grapes. Based near Izmir on the Aegean coast, the estate produces small-lot, artisanal wines that capture the coastal freshness and cultural richness of western Turkey.

Paşaeli’s mission is to protect heritage varieties such as Karasakız and Çalkarası while demonstrating their potential for world-class expression.

Vineyard Location & Terroir

The vineyards span several Aegean subregions, including Kaynaklar, Çeşme, and Çanakkale. Influenced by the Aegean Sea, the climate is Mediterranean with cooling breezes, limestone soils, and abundant sunshine — ideal for aromatic and balanced wines.

Grape Varieties & Wine Style

Paşaeli specializes in rare native grapes such as Çalkarası (used for rosé), Karasakız, and Sultaniye. The wines are vibrant, medium-bodied, and expressive, combining Mediterranean warmth with minerality and finesse.

Signature Wines

  • Çalkarası Rosé — Crisp, dry, and floral, with bright red fruit and sea-breeze freshness.
  • Karasakız Red — Silky and aromatic, showing raspberry and spice.
  • Sultaniye White — Light and aromatic, with notes of pear and citrus zest.

Winemaking & Cellar Practices

Fermentation takes place with minimal intervention using native yeasts. Temperature control and gentle handling preserve delicate aromas. Aging occurs in stainless steel or neutral oak, maintaining freshness and typicity.
