Winery Overview & History
Kavaklıdere is Turkey’s oldest and most historic winery, founded in 1929 in Ankara. As the first private winemaking company in the young Turkish Republic, Kavaklıdere played a leading role in modernizing the country’s wine industry. Over nearly a century, it has grown into a symbol of Turkish heritage and quality, combining native grape traditions with international expertise.
With vineyards across Anatolia, including Cappadocia and Thrace, Kavaklıdere remains committed to preserving Turkey’s indigenous grape varieties while producing world-class wines.
Vineyard Location & Terroir
The estate cultivates grapes in multiple regions, from the volcanic soils of Cappadocia to the limestone-rich slopes of Thrace. Each site benefits from warm days, cool nights, and long ripening seasons that promote aromatic concentration and freshness.
This diversity of terroir enables Kavaklıdere to express the full spectrum of Turkish winemaking — from bold reds to crisp, aromatic whites.
Grape Varieties & Wine Style
Kavaklıdere champions native grapes such as Kalecik Karası, Öküzgözü, and Narince, alongside international varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay. Its wines are known for balance, fruit clarity, and a subtle Mediterranean warmth that reflects Anatolia’s rich heritage.
Signature Wines
- Prestige Kalecik Karası — Elegant, medium-bodied red with red cherry and spice notes.
- Côtes d’Ankara Narince — Aromatic and textured, showcasing floral and citrus layers.
- Selection Syrah & Kalecik Karası — A refined blend with complexity and depth.
Winemaking & Cellar Practices
The winery combines traditional methods with modern technology. Grapes are hand-harvested, fermented under temperature control, and aged in French oak when appropriate. A focus on clean fermentation and balanced oak integration highlights varietal purity.
