Winery Overview & History
Rotes Haus Vaduz, literally “The Red House,” is one of Liechtenstein’s oldest and most picturesque wine estates. Its vivid façade and surrounding vineyards form a cultural landmark in the heart of Vaduz, symbolizing the principality’s deep-rooted viticultural heritage. Established in the mid-19th century, the estate has long been associated with the princely vineyards and today works closely with the Hofkellerei des Fürsten von Liechtenstein.
The winery remains dedicated to small-scale, artisanal production, blending centuries-old traditions with modern Alpine precision to craft wines that reflect both place and elegance.
Vineyard Location & Terroir
Situated at the foot of the Alps on the gentle slopes above the Rhine River, the Vaduz vineyards benefit from optimal sunlight, gravelly-limestone soils, and cool mountain breezes. The terroir provides excellent drainage and slow, even ripening — ideal for expressive Pinot Noir and crisp, mineral-driven whites.
Grape Varieties & Wine Style
Pinot Noir (Blauburgunder) is the estate’s hallmark grape, yielding delicate yet structured reds marked by red cherry, violet, and fine spice. Limited plantings of Chardonnay and Zweigelt contribute to fresh, textured whites and supple red blends.
Rotes Haus wines balance Alpine brightness with graceful depth — elegant, nuanced, and unmistakably of Vaduz.
Signature Wines
- Rotes Haus Pinot Noir Vaduz — Silky and aromatic, showing red berries, herbs, and soft minerality.
- Rotes Haus Chardonnay — Elegant, lightly oaked, with citrus, pear, and a long, saline finish.
- Rotes Haus Cuvée — A modern red blend highlighting balance, freshness, and gentle spice.
Winemaking & Philosophy
Harvested entirely by hand, the grapes undergo careful selection and gentle pressing. Fermentation is performed in small vats, and aging takes place in a combination of stainless steel and French oak barrels to preserve fruit purity and finesse. The winery follows sustainable vineyard practices, maintaining biodiversity and soil vitality.
