Hofkellerei des Fürsten von Liechtenstein

Winery Overview & History

Hofkellerei des Fürsten von Liechtenstein—the Prince of Liechtenstein’s winery—embodies the country’s noble viticultural heritage. Rooted in Vaduz and linked historically with the princely estates, the Hofkellerei champions small-lot precision, Alpine freshness, and a refined, Old World sensibility. Its mission is to express the Rhine Valley’s cool-climate character with clarity and grace.

Vineyard Location & Terroir

The vineyards lie on south-facing slopes above the Rhine in Vaduz and surrounding sites. Gravelly alluvial soils over limestone and marl deliver excellent drainage and mineral drive, while the Alpine foothills create large diurnal shifts that preserve acidity and aromatic definition.

Grape Varieties & Wine Style

Pinot Noir (Blauburgunder) leads the plantings, supported by Chardonnay, Riesling, and selected Central European varieties. Reds are poised and transparent—red cherry, rose petal, fine spice—while whites show citrus, white flowers, and a stony, saline finish. The style favors precision over power and elegance over extraction.

Signature Wines

  • Pinot Noir Vaduz — Silken texture, fine tannins, red-fruited purity.
  • Chardonnay Selection — Citrus and stone-fruit tension with subtle oak support.
  • Riesling Rhine Valley — Crisp, linear and mineral, with alpine lift.

Winemaking & Cellar Practices

Hand harvesting, gentle sorting, and temperature-controlled fermentations protect varietal clarity. Pinot Noir is handled with moderate extraction and aged in a judicious mix of stainless steel and French oak to retain finesse. Whites ferment cool, with selective lees contact to build texture without masking terroir.
