Château Musar

Winery Overview & History

Château Musar, founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar, is Lebanon’s legendary estate. From cellars in Ghazir and vineyards in the Bekaa Valley, Musar forged an identity of authenticity, resilience, and timeless complexity.

Vineyard Location & Terroir

The Bekaa Valley sits at 1,000 meters, moderated by Mediterranean and mountain influences. Limestone-rich soils and intense diurnals yield ripe yet fresh fruit with distinctive spice and mineral depth.

Grape Varieties & Wine Style

Red blends typically include Cinsault, Carignan, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Whites often feature ancient Obaideh and Merwah. Musar reds are savory and evolving; whites are textural and age-worthy—both unique in character.

Signature Wines

  • Château Musar Red — A long-lived, wild-herb and spice-laced classic.
  • Château Musar White — Honeyed, waxy, mineral; cellar-worthy.
  • Hochar Père et Fils — Bekaa fruit in a more approachable style.

Winemaking & Cellar Practices

Hand-picked fruit, natural fermentations, long élevage, and minimal filtration. The result is expressive wines with a distinctive Lebanese signature.
