Winery Overview & History
Domaine Sigalas, founded in 1991 on the island of Santorini, captures the volcanic essence of Greece’s most iconic wine region. Its founder, Paris Sigalas, revolutionized modern Greek winemaking by elevating Assyrtiko to global acclaim.
Vineyard Location & Terroir
The vineyards lie near Oia, on ancient volcanic soils of pumice and lava. Winds from the Aegean Sea and minimal rainfall shape vines trained in the traditional kouloura basket form to protect grapes from the island’s harsh elements.
Grape Varieties & Wine Style
Assyrtiko dominates the plantings, yielding wines of piercing acidity, salty minerality, and remarkable longevity. Sigalas also produces limited quantities of Athiri, Aidani, and Mavrotragano.
Signature Wines
- Assyrtiko Santorini – Iconic, pure, and mineral-driven.
- Barrel-Fermented Assyrtiko – Richer expression with oak depth.
- MMXVI Kavalieros – Single-vineyard masterpiece of intensity and balance.
Winemaking & Cellar Practices
Fermentations emphasize precision and texture, with both stainless steel and barrel options. The goal is clarity and terroir transparency—capturing Santorini’s sea breeze and volcanic fire in every glass.
