Winery Overview & History
Tsinandali Estate is one of Georgia’s most historic and culturally significant wineries. Founded in the early 19th century by Prince Alexander Chavchavadze — a poet, statesman, and visionary — it was the first estate in Georgia to introduce European winemaking methods.
The winery’s legacy endures as a bridge between East and West, symbolizing the birth of modern Georgian viticulture.
Vineyard Location & Terroir
Situated in the Kakheti region’s Alazani Valley, the estate enjoys a warm climate tempered by mountain breezes and fertile alluvial soils. These conditions create ideal ripening and natural balance, producing wines of freshness and complexity.
The vineyards surrounding the historic estate remain among Georgia’s most esteemed.
Grape Varieties & Wine Style
The focus lies on Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane — classic white varieties that thrive in Kakheti. The style is elegant and aromatic, showcasing citrus, peach, and herbal notes. Select wines are aged in qvevri, imparting amber hues and subtle tannic texture.
Signature Wines
- Tsinandali White — A blend of Rkatsiteli and Mtsvane, floral, crisp, and delicately mineral.
- Qvevri Rkatsiteli — Complex and textural, aged in traditional clay vessels.
- Estate Collection Red — Medium-bodied and smooth, with cherry and earthy undertones.
Winemaking & Cellar Practices
The winery combines European techniques introduced in the 1800s with ancient qvevri fermentation. Temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks preserve freshness, while traditional aging adds depth and authenticity.
