Winery Overview & History
Château Palmer is the romantic heart of Margaux. Classified as a Third Growth in 1855 yet often cited among the Médoc’s finest, Palmer became renowned in the 20th century for its sensual texture, perfume and longevity. Today the estate unites tradition with biodynamic farming to craft wines of rare charm and depth.
Vineyard Location & Terroir
The vineyard lies on the gravelly croupes of Margaux, with pebbly, well-drained soils over clay and limestone. Proximity to the Gironde moderates temperatures, encouraging slow, even ripening. Palmer’s parcels form a mosaic of exposures and subsoils that bring both fine aromatics and supple power.
Grape Varieties & Wine Style
Plantings focus on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a touch of Petit Verdot. The style is unmistakably Margaux—violet and cedar perfume, blackcurrant and plum, satin-like tannins and poised freshness. With age, notes of tobacco, truffle and graphite emerge in graceful harmony.
Signature Wines
- Château Palmer (Grand Vin) — A refined, age-worthy Margaux blending intensity with velvety elegance.
- Alter Ego de Palmer — Crafted for earlier drinking, showing vibrant fruit, floral lift and the estate’s signature silk.
Winemaking & Cellar Practices
Grapes are hand-harvested by parcel and sorted with precision. Fermentations take place in temperature-controlled vats with gentle extractions. Maturation proceeds in French oak (a proportion new) for roughly 18–22 months. Biodynamic viticulture underpins purity, finesse and a seamless, layered texture.
