Winery Overview & History
Château Léoville Poyferré completes the trio of former Léoville estates, combining heritage with innovation. Classified as a Second Growth in 1855, it has been owned by the Cuvelier family since 1920. Under Didier Cuvelier and now Sara Lecompte Cuvelier, the estate has become a benchmark of modern finesse and precision.
Vineyard Location & Terroir
The 80-hectare vineyard sits in the heart of Saint-Julien, bordered by Léoville Barton and Léoville Las Cases. Its gravelly-clay soils and maritime climate favor balance between ripeness and freshness.
Grape Varieties & Wine Style
Cabernet Sauvignon (61%) provides backbone and intensity, while Merlot (27%) and Petit Verdot (8%) add perfume and plushness. The wines are rich yet silky, marked by cassis, cocoa, and violets.
Signature Wines
- Château Léoville Poyferré (Grand Vin) — Luxurious, expressive, and harmonious, a hallmark of modern Saint-Julien.
- Pavillon de Léoville Poyferré — The second wine, vibrant and approachable in youth.
