Winery Overview & History
Château Léoville Barton embodies the soul of Saint-Julien: tradition, balance, and family. Founded in 1826 by the Barton family—Irish in origin—the estate remains one of the few classified growths still owned by the same family today. Its deep cellars at Château Langoa Barton echo two centuries of authenticity and restraint.
Vineyard Location & Terroir
The 50-hectare vineyard lies on the central plateau of Saint-Julien, with classic Médoc gravel over clay subsoils. The terroir gives Cabernet Sauvignon both structure and aromatic depth, while Merlot adds a gentle roundness and charm.
Grape Varieties & Wine Style
The vineyard composition—74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc—produces wines of integrity and freshness. The hallmark is balance: dark fruit, cedar, and tobacco framed by firm yet graceful tannins.
Signature Wine
- Château Léoville Barton (Grand Vin) — A true Saint-Julien classic, elegant yet firm, with exceptional cellaring potential.
Winemaking & Cellar Practices
Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats, with maturation in 60% new French oak for 18–20 months. The approach remains traditional, favoring purity over opulence.
