Winery Overview & History
Quails’ Gate Winery is a family-owned estate in West Kelowna, founded in 1956 by the Stewart family. Over three generations, it has become synonymous with premium Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, embodying the spirit of the Okanagan Valley’s artisanal winemaking tradition.
Guided by sustainability and respect for nature, Quails’ Gate produces wines of grace, authenticity, and balance.
Vineyard Location & Terroir
The vineyards overlook Okanagan Lake, benefiting from the moderating effects of the water and the volcanic soils that define the region. Warm days and cool nights allow slow, even ripening, enhancing flavor development and preserving acidity.
This terroir yields wines of remarkable elegance and aromatic precision.
Grape Varieties & Wine Style
The focus is on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, complemented by smaller plantings of Riesling, Chenin Blanc, and Merlot. The wines are refined, balanced, and vibrant — distinctly Okanagan in style.
Quails’ Gate is celebrated for its Burgundy-inspired Pinot Noir, which combines purity, silkiness, and a touch of wild mountain character.
Signature Wines
- Stewart Family Reserve Pinot Noir — Complex and elegant, with layers of cherry, violet, and spice.
- Chardonnay Rosemary’s Block — Mineral-driven, textured, and beautifully balanced.
- Dry Riesling — Crisp, floral, and vibrant, reflecting the cool Okanagan climate.
Winemaking & Cellar Practices
Hand-harvested grapes are sorted for quality, fermented in small lots, and aged in French oak barrels. Minimal intervention allows each vintage to express its terroir with clarity.
The winery follows sustainable practices and continues to set the benchmark for Okanagan Pinot Noir.
